Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is a prequel expansion pack for 2014 Wolfenstein: The New Order developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda Softworks and is part of the long running Wolfenstein series. Set in 1946 before the events of New Order, the story follows main series protagonist, William "B.J." Blazkowicz , as he attempts to uncover the locating of a Nazi stronghold
The story progresses in the form of chapters along two interconnected storylines. The first called Rudi jager and the Den of wolfs, Blazkowicz voiced by Brian Bloom , attempts to steals coordinates to the compound of General Wilhelm Deathshead Stasse by breaking in to a castle. And the second part titled The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs where Blazkowicz travels to the city of Wulfburg where an obsessed Nazi archaeologist has discovered several artifacts that threaten to release a dark and ancient power.
Little has been changed in the game-play from Wolfenstein: The New Order in The Old Blood, it uses many of the same elements such as the health system, where the players health is divided into four sections that regenerate over time. However, if a whole section is lost then a health pack must be used to regain that section of health.
Melee attacks, firearms and explosives can be used to fight off enemies and players can run, jump and occasionally swim to navigate through locations. A stealth approach can even be taken to silently take down enemies.
A cover system can be used in combat to assist strategies against enemies, where you can lean around, over, and under cover. There is no limit to the amount of weapons that can be carried at one time and most of these weapons can be dual wielded to create even more devastating results. Some new weapons and customization options have been added to Wolfenstein: The Old Blood.
Wolfenstein: The New Order received generally positive reviews with the combat and narrative being praised above everything else. This would indicate that The Old Blood will receive a similar response since it will feature similar combat game-play and storyline narratives.
