Now, I've gone back and replayed a lot of games I loved as a child, and I've been disappointed an awful lot, so I held my breath a bit when I opened up Kingdom Hearts 1 again... then breathed a sigh of relief.
This game is straight up magical. I first played it when I was nine, and it holds up now at age 23 - the graphics aren't nearly as cringey as is typical when playing old games, and the attack system is simpler than the sequels of course, but it's still fun to use.
It's been kinda fun to see the characters through my now-adult eyes, as opposed to when I was a kid and they were all older than me (and ~so mature~ :P).
Plus now that I've played the sequels and the prequel, I see all this foreshadowing and understand so much more! When that hooded figure showed up in the beginning at that cave I basically screamed and pointed for the whole scene, haha.
More than just nostalgia, I genuinely enjoy the process of playing the game, exploring all the worlds in it and completing all those little bonus things like the puppies and the little hidden locations.
A classic - perfect for old fans and new alike!
