3D Graphics + Puzzles + Intriguing Plot + Multiple Endings = This is an awesome game.
First off, I would like to say that I don't usually play these types of games. But after playing and surprisingly enjoying its predecessor, I felt this was a game I had to play.
If you like games with an engaging story, tricky puzzles and immersive atmosphere, this is a game you can't miss.
(Note: that this game follows on from the story of the previous "999" game, but you do not have to play it to enjoy this game.)
The game is easily navigatable, and divided between visual-novel style narratives and choices, and intricate 3D-room escape puzzles. It's very simple to pick up and play, and some of the puzzles are quite challenging and require a lot of lateral thinking-- but isn't that the fun?
In terms of plot, the story is very intriguing as it has many different endings based on the decisions you make during the game, requiring several playthroughs to discover the "truth". The way the story is woven intricately connects all of your previous playthroughs make for a more immersive experience, further pushing through the consequences of your decisions in-game and making you feel very much a part of the story, rather than just the player.
The music and soundeffects very greatly affect the atmosphere in the game, adding to whatever situation the player finds themselves in-- whether it be a life-or-death choice or shocking twist.
The 3D-rendered graphics are a very nice touch to the whole experience, and the anime-esque shading to the characters bring a good contrasting splash of colour and liveliness to the eeriness of the environment around them.
With the amount of puzzles and story plots that are linked together within the game, there is easily a lot of replayability over 10 hours. In order to get past certain plot points, you will need certain playthroughs to pass, meaning that replaying the game is a must in order to fully complete the game.
Overall, this game (and its predecessor) is an underrated gem that will blow you away with its intricate narrative and puzzle elements. If you like visual novels, puzzles, escape-the-room/thriller/horror games, or perhaps a change of pace from your fast-paced dungeon-crawling action, then this is the game for you.
