GoT S8E02: Questions That Were Answered And Our Predictions For The Next Episode.

The opening of episode one started where the first ended. Jaime is back in Winterfell and people are still not too keen on him (we know that’s no surprise), the battle with the dead is about to begin and Jon Snow finally tells Daenerys the truth...

If you were hoping for a bunch of epic battles in this episode then I’m sure you will have been very disappointed as this episode focussed on the emotions, the stakes and the tension that is rising in Winterfell.

If you read our first blog about episode one, you would know that now, after the second episode the questions we asked were answered and most of our predictions were correct!

Here are some of the questions that were answered for us;

Arya’s weapon.

In episode one, we got to see a teaser of Arya’s weapon, but in episode two we finally get to see the finished weapon in all its glory. Her choice of weapon was a fairly short, double sided spear with a few tricks up its sleeve: the blades seem to be detachable, transforming the spear into a dragonglass dagger and then a shorter spear too, something we didn’t get to see in episode one.

This could also be the same weapon we see Arya using in the first trailer for season 8, it’s a very quick and dark clip we see but if it is, we can’t wait to see it in action in the battle for Winterfell!

What Jon was going to do.

In the final moments of the episode, Jon Snow finally tells Daenerys the truth that he is the son of her brother, making him her nephew (still weird). Let’s just say Daenerys wasn’t jumping with joy after hearing the news but she wasn’t exactly infuriated by it either, in fact she was fairly calm with a hint of caution as she questioned Jon about this new found truth.

Jon Snow and Dany

“If it were true, it would make you the last male heir of House Targaryen,” she says. “You’d have a claim to the Iron Throne.” Daenerys didn’t seem very sad about the news, instead she seems quite unstable. Does she see him as a threat now? Will they continue their relationship? Will Jon take his place on the Iron Throne?

Brans reaction.

Jaime hadn’t seen Bran since he was caught all that time ago when a young Bran interrupted an incestuous meeting between him and his sister Cersei. After Jaime’s actions that night, Bran was left paralyzed for the rest of his life. You would think after doing something like that to him that Bran would want his head on a stick but just as we predicted, Bran did not care at all about his past with Jaime, his main focus now is surviving the battle with the Night King. Bran’s character arc arguably couldn’t have happened the way it did if Jamie had not tried to murder him, leading him to his twist in fate, so surely everything should be okay now, right? Right?

Jaimes fate.

When Daenerys confronts Jaime she talks about how he killed her father, the Mad King and how he is threatening despite her knowing just how much of a raging psychopath her father was and how badly he needed to be put down. She and a lot of the other characters still don’t trust Jaime, given his past but Brienne vouches for Jaime with a very emotional speech, resulting in her relenting and sparing him of his life. Jon also makes the point that right now, they need every man they can get after Jaime reveals that Cersei has no intention of helping them in the fight against the Night King. What are they going to do now they know this?

The above are some of the questions we had after watching episode 1 that were answered in episode 2. There are a million more sparked by this episode but the biggest question of them all is who is going to die in the battle in the next episode?

Brienne of Tarth becoming a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was the best part of the episode, no arguments about it! I mean, have you ever seen her character so happy and filled with that much uncontrollable joy? But like everyone in the office who watched the episode has pointed out, her character arc is now complete now that she’s fulfilled her oath and become a knight, which begs the question of who is going to die...? We all know that happy endings don’t happen in Winterfell, so could it be Brienne next?

Jenny of Oldstones song.

To finish, I want to leave you with one thing to think about as it definitely got me twitching in my seat…

As Game Of Thrones has such little time left, I believe they are taking every opportunity that they can to add little bits and advance its story further. In the opening to this episode played a very familiar song to anyone who has read George R.R Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels...

Podrick sang:

  • High in the halls of the kings who are gone,
  • Jenny would dance with her ghosts,
  • The ones she had lost and the ones she had found,
  • And the ones who had loved her the most.

  • The ones who’d been gone for so very long,
  • She couldn’t remember their names,
  • They spun her around on the damp cold stone,
  • Spun away all her sorrow and pain.

  • And she never wanted to leave,
  • Never wanted to leave,
  • Never wanted to leave,
  • Never wanted to leave,
  • Never wanted to leave,
  • Never wanted to leave,

The Jenny that Podrick is singing about if you haven’t already guessed is Jenny of Oldstones, the wife of Duncan Targaryen. The song about their love resonates with Jon and Daenerys’. Duncan was so in love with Jenny that he ended up giving up his right to the Iron Throne to be with her. - Is this a hint that Jon will just like his ancestor before him did?

I don’t know about you but I hope that all the new questions and already existing questions we have will be answered very soon as the anticipation is just becoming too much for me! I need to know what's going to happen next!
